About Freehold Brewing Co.

A TRUE AND HONEST REFLECTION OF PLACE, FREEHOLD IS ALBERTA BY CHOICE.

Place is more than four walls or open plains – it's the surroundings that ground us and allow us to explore, build, and grow. Alberta has been the setting for every part of our larger journey. There are a series of stories that start in both pioneer tracks and with boarding passes in tow. Freehold is founded on the thought that Albertans choose to carve their own way. A choice made because there is a finally a place that reflects an internal resiliency and the celebration of earnest hard work. Every Albertan in their own way is in their own pursuit of building a better place. A simple question, "How do we tip our caps to this place?", serves to remind us remind of the importance of this story.

Freehold began in 2016 when long-time friends Matt James and Tavis Agnew envisioned something more than a brewery. They dreamt about a space that shares an earned meal, brew, and conversation. Striving for the nostalgia and care of sharing something built from scratch, they sought to build it from the ground up with ingredients that speak for themselves.

Core - Lacy Saisy Farmhouse Saison   (3.5/5)

Lacy Saisy leaves her mark on your glass with her bubbles and she’ll leave her mark on your heart with her mysterious farmhouse character. Deep enough for reflection with friends, refreshing enough for a day in the grass.

Pairable with almost anything, and approachable for pros and beginners alike, Lacy’s sweet, malty complexity and earthy grounding are elevated with a citrusy, grassy, and floral aroma. The bright bubbles turn your glass into lacy artwork. Brewed to balance intrigue and drinkability, this beer can hang at a BBQ or at a dinner party. Open up to Lacy Saisy and watch her become your best friend.

Core - Big Chutes Lager   (3.55/5)

Sun-ripened barley and hops give this beer an approachable quality, a distinctive aroma and a crisp, grainy finish. Carefully balanced malts produce a rich body, full flavour, and enough sweetness to make this lager interesting.

Traditional hops, known for imparting a subtle, earthy flavour and only mild bitterness, are blended with new world hops, known for their sharp pine and citrus notes. The result is a juicy aroma without any perceived bitterness.

Let this brew be your reward for an honest day’s effort. Drinkable and sharable, patio or après-tractor.

Style: Lager - Helles

ABV: 5.5%    IBU: 23

Air Mail   (3.64/5)

In 1918, hundreds of letters flew between Calgary and Edmonton to document and share the stories of Albertans at the time. A pioneering trip that matched the aviatrix's determination, daring attitude, and her innovative spirit.

Our Belgian IPA's bright effervescence delivers earthy, floral, and fruity aromas of hop while balanced with the spice of a Belgian-style beer. At Freehold Brewing Co., we believe in a dedication to craft, a connection to place, and a focus on innovation.

Tin Snips Table Sour   (3.67/5)

Considered the perfect farmhouse sipper in Belgium in the 19th century, table ales are low enough in alcohol that you could have more than one, but still flavourful enough to drink at meal time. We've slightly soured this table ale to add a twist to the traditional taste that's tart but not puckering, then we infused chamomile and lavender leaves to give it some character. This all-season beer is perfect for getting some relief from the summer heat or for being comforted on a winter night in the cabin.

Style: Sour - Other

ABV: 3.5%    IBU: 24

Have you ever looked up at the night sky, and truly felt that you were away from the lights of the city? Only to find light again. Endless sky consumes the world, but in that vast darkness is a sea of shining stars and moonlight. Dark Skies showcases the light within the dark. A body of roasted malt directs us to the shining notes of a true hefeweizen. We can get lost in its abyss but that’s when our eyes adjust and the meteors come to light.
